What does "Love" mean?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.

So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."

Rebecca- age 8

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.

You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."

Billy - age 4

One reason to ditch the PC

A long time ago I had a dozen PC's running various of the x86 operating systems, including Windows, FreeBSD, Solaris and Linux. A dozen computers all at once. Yup, I was real hardcore.

Why? I don't really remember, but I learned one important thing. The typical PC hardware sucks big time.

Review: The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds is one of those stories that has stuck around since it was first told. It was originally released as a Science Fiction novel, later done as a Radio Theater program and even later as movies. It spawned several movies with the same theme but somewhat different plotlines.

Google launching their Analytics service

Google has a new webmaster oriented service that's just launched. A few months ago they had bought Urchin, a company providing a website traffic analysis service, and it is this service which Google has rebranded as Analytics.

I've just signed up for the service on this site, and if you're eagle eyed as the page loads you'll see requests to google-analytics.com.

Google to launch wifi access for the city of Mountain View

You might be thinking "Oh, Mountain View, the home of so many of Silicon Valley high fliers", so of course they've already got excellent internet connectivity out the yinyang. And we do have our fair share of broadband choices, but the choices we have are no more advanced than elsewhere. No Fiber Optics connections at the curb, etc, just the usual DSL or CableInternet choices. ... Mtn View is or was home to Sun Microsystems, Intuit, Netscape, Lycos, Silicon Graphics, oh, and a little company called Google. It's also the town I've lived in for 7 of the last 15 years.

Testing SkypeOut from around the world

I'm on a business trip to India and I want to keep in touch with my sweetie in California. Seeing as how Skype and other VOIP services are supposed to be the cats pajamas for bypassing "outrageous" long distance phone charges, I'm wanting to try this out.

Internet television?

I guess journalists like to find ways to spin the stories they write so there's a life and death struggle, two titans up there clashing against each other, one of them about to stomp the other one into the dust. And what better story than for a surprise newcomer to arise from nowhere and whack the head off the ruling king?

Converting TiVo recordings for the video iPod

Suppose you're a TV addict? I'm not, I haven't owned a TV for over 10 years. But I appreciate that a lot of you out there are TV addicts. It's for you that the video iPod exists, I suppose. But in the iTunes Music Store they offer only a small number of TV programs, so what if you want more?

TVHarmony has been offering software for a long time to improve the TiVo experience. Their software now supports converting recordings from a TiVo to the format required to view on the video iPod.
