Haven't done much more research for The eSATAori project but I found a slashdot article which asks What NAS to buy? ... this gives an interesting angle to consider as my goals are similar. The anonymous slashdot poster asks:

The other day I had a brainstorm(fart?) related to the stability of the files I'm storing on hard disks. I have a lot of stuff I'm storing where the only copy is on one disk. If that disk were to fail the files would be lost. Disaster would strike, flames would fall from the heavens, cats and dogs would lie together, and terror would reign for a thousand years, all if my files were lost. Something like that. |

I use Cingular (er.. AT&T) cell phone service. Supposedly nowadays the cell phone companies are starting to provide high speed mobile Internet access. According to Cingular the official story is you don't use a cell phone as a method for a laptop to connect to the Internet. Not allowed. Their Smart phone connect plan allows you to browse the Internet with your phone, using your phone not a laptop that's using the phone to connect. Their Data connect plan is required to be used by an AT&T PDA. The rate for unlimited data access is $80/month. |

Faster external drives arriving--slowly offers an answer to a question I had a couple months ago. Would the SATA interface be used for external disk drives? I had noticed eSATA products in the computer store, my latest laptop uses the SATA interface, and the SATA interface has become more common. So, I've been wondering, what is the extent that SATA can be utilized? It turns out that eSATA is an externalized form of SATA which is slated to replace the USB and FireWire external drives. |
