Start Logic

Start Logic offers a nice range of services at very low prices. They are located in Phoenix Arizona, which they say gives them protection from extreme environments. Now, if you've been in Phoenix in the summer (as I have) that should give make you go "huh", because their typical summer weather is essentially extreme. There's no other way to describe 120 degrees in the shade than "extreme" (or, as they say, at least it's a dry heat).

But they have a good point. Phoenix doesn't get the excessive rain, tornados, hurricanes, snow, earthquakes, etc that other areas get. Which makes for a reliable data center. And that's certainly the point they're trying to make. Unlike data centers in other parts of the world, their's isn't going to get knocked out by weather.

Their services include

  • Shared hosting on a Linux server
  • Shared hosting on a Windows server
  • Virtual private servers running FreeBSD
  • And several sizes of dedicated servers

All these hosting arrangements are incredibly cheap. However, at the same time the featureset is not very large. That is, it's just basic hosting with no extras. At these prices, who's going to argue?

Re: Start Logic

I have had similar nightmarish experiences with StartLogic's support. Their chat based support is completely useless. The people they have staffing the chat have a total of 3 keys on their keyboard. Each key triggers a macro. The only thing they can respond with is either:

1. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.
2. We will fix the issue soon.
3. Can you please hold? I am going to research this for you right now and it should take about 3-4 minutes. I'll be back as quickly as I can.
4. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

It's like talking to a Liza program, only dumber. Liza had character and could solve problems compared to these guys.

Even with a higher level account, like a VPS service, they will reboot your VPS for no reason, in the middle of the day. They will do things that take down your service without ever letting you know.

When you call, you are waiting on hold for at least 30 minutes, often longer, before you can even speak to a person.

When they first created the VPS service, the passwords did not work. It took 1 week to find someone at StartLogic who knew how to change a password!

They have this incredibly ridiculous policy that if you update an open case, it drops to the bottom of the queue. So, when you've had a ticket open for a week and nobody has looked at it, and you update it with "What's going on with this ticket!? It's been open for a week!" it drops it to the bottom of their priority list.

Unfortunately I've paid for a year of service up front and I regret making that payment every minute of every day.

Find a better hosting provider. This one is for the birds.

Re: Start Logic

I would like to comment about a severe problem I have had with StartLogic web hosting.

After reading all the great reviews and customer ratings for this company, I went to their website and signed up for a yearly contract for the ProLogic plan they offer. I paid for this year of service with my PayPal account. Within 5 minutes, PayPal had sent me a receipt showing the payment made to StartLogic. This was on a Friday, March 7, 2008.

By Sunday, the login page at StartLogic still did not recognize my login and password. I logged in to their Support Live Chat, which is supposed to be available 24/7. After waiting about 25 minutes online, someone finally responded to my Chat window. I explained what had happened with my account not being turned on. The support person said they could not help me and would refer the problem to the Billing Department and would open a support ticket for me, then signed off the Chat. This support ticket showed up later as being created on March 8, 2008.

I tried to log in to view my support ticket on Monday, March 10, 2008, but the system still did not recognize my login and password. After looking all over their website, I finally found an email address for Support, and sent an email to them with my PayPal receipt attached. I still had received no correspondence from StartLogic at that time.

On Friday, March 14, 2008, the system still would not let me login to view my support ticket, and I had received no correspondence whatsoever from StartLogic. So I called their 800 number for Support, and waiting 40 minutes on the phone for someone to answer me. When a support person finally answered, they said the same thing - they could not help me and would send an inquiry to Billing. I told them I could not check my support ticket, since I could not log in to my account. They said they would escalate the ticket to bring it to Billing's attention faster.

Finally, on Sunday, March 16, 2008, I was able to log in to their system, but found that my account was placed in "Domain Parking", with no services available other than the ability to see my support ticket.

The next day, I received an email requesting a copy of my PayPal receipt, which I had already sent to them earlier in an email, and telling me that I needed to supply credit card information to be able to turn on my account. So, I responded to their email and attached ANOTHER copy of my PayPal receipt.

On March 20, 2008 -- a full 13 DAYS after first signing up with StartLogic for a new account, I still had no word from them about my account status, payment status, or any other subject. So I sent another email to their support department, and also added an update to my support ticket (which had no activity since March 17) asking what was going on with my account and asking for an update on the status.

On March 24, 2008, I still had not received any word from StartLogic about my account, so I sent ANOTHER email to their support department telling them I wanted my account cancelled and my money returned. I informed them that I was going to file a complaint against them with PayPal, and send a complaint letter to every web host rating service I could find.

In the 17 DAYS since I first signed up for an account with StartLogic, my old web hosting plan had expired and my customers' websites were down, along with my own. I had to find another web host to move the websites to so that I could maintain service for my clients.

Today, March 25, 2008, I received an email from StartLogic asking for my PayPal receipt -- AGAIN! This is an exact copy of the same email they sent to me on March 17, and to which I responded with a 2nd copy of the receipt. When viewing my support tickets this morning, I found that all of them had been closed and marked "Resolved", and a new one opened with the email that I received this morning.

Therefore, since StartLogice refuses to help me with this mistake in their Billing Department, I have again sent them email demanding my money back, and am filing this complaint letter with you and with PayPal.

Sincerely,
Mairi Krausse

Bad service of StartLogic

I order a service plan on StartLogic , $95.4 USD per year, and $9.99 for domian name.I last year, My customer don’t want to use their site service any more, So that I contact Startlogic, and let them to delete my cridet card data, I use another mail account to recive their service mail, I just check the mail, StartLogic charge me for $95.4 USD.

My Issue
1.I let their service engineer remove to cridet card data, they forget remove it, and domain name does not pay any more, and site service charge me $95.4.
2.They charge me site service without domain name, I can not use their any service. They do not know this?
3.The bull shit customer protect policy, they don’t think about the customer ues or not , they just need you pay the service fee.

Why I don’t use their any service but I still need pay? I don’t know the reason they could charge me.

I use their service for 2 year, I have several think.
1.Their site techology is not good enough, I can not use Chinese file name, but other hosting site.
2.Their site speed is not stateable. I think they over sell to many customer, do you want your site is slow?
3.Their engineer does not have well
