Earlier I set up a Fedora VirtualBox guest system on my Mac and initially had some performance problems. Those are solved and now I want to set up folder sharing. This turns out to be nearly trivial.

Installing Fedora Core 10 on Virtualbox

VirtualBox is a family of powerful x86 virtualization products for enterprise as well as home use. This posting is a look into the steps to install the modern Fedora inside VirtualBox, using Mac OS X as the host in case that matters.

The basic installation steps are very straightforward. The basic steps are to

  1. Download the Fedora .ISO file for x86 systems. VirtualBox will work with either the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Fedora.

VirtualBox running Ubuntu accessing host file system on Mac OS X

I have a few Mac OS X systems, in particular a MacBookPro that my job gave me. 2.33 GHZ w/ 2GB of memory Core2Duo. It's a fine and dandy machine and I'm real happy with the performance of VirtualBox on this system. Since my job is really about facilitating running Java on open source OS's like Ubuntu what I need is for a virtualized OS to feel very responsive. But I also need to compile OpenJDK source on that OS.
